For families who grieve a devastating loss, a funeral Mass offered for their loved one provides great consolation and a powerful prayer for the repose of the soul of the faithful departed.
The Word of God in Scripture provides great comfort, knowing that the Lord is near in our sorrow. In general, the funeral Mass includes one reading from the Old Testament, one from the New Testament and one from the Gospels.
In advance of the family’s meeting with our parish priest and music director, readings may be reviewed at the links below.
During the Easter season, the first readings are taken not from the Old Testament, but instead taken from the following New Testament options, found HERE.

Hymns also serve an important part of the funeral Mass, in bringing comfort and drawing hearts nearer to Christ. A selection of possible hymns may be found at the following link.
Note:
Outside of the Easter Season, choices for the first reading are from the Old Testament.
