In the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist, Jesus comes to us in a special way. By the power of His words and His promise, He is truly present: Body, Blood, Soul and the Divinity, under the humble appearance of simple bread and wine.
Because He is truly present, we adore the Most Blessed Sacrament, as God with us. This is why we receive Him with love, and why we genuflect before Him. This is why we adore Him.
Why would Jesus come to us in this way? Because He loves us, and wants to be with us.
At Saint Mary’s, our youth typically receive the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist (First Holy Communion) in the 3rd grade after instruction in our Parish Religious Ed Program. To enroll your child in Religious Ed, please call the parish office!
Adults seeking to join the Catholic Church and receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist should contact Father John Maria for instruction. Very often, the OCIA program is the means of instruction and preparation to receive this great sacrament.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
One very special means of being close to Jesus is by adoring Him in the Holy Eucharist. At Saint Mary’s, we have such adoration available on:
Wednesday 7:00 to 8:00 pm
First Friday 8:00 to 9:00 am
Scriptural Foundation:
For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” – 1 Cor 11:23-24
“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.” – John 6:54-56
“For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.” – John 6:40
Miracles of the Holy Eucharist:
At every Mass, the bread and wine become truly the Body and Blood of Christ, even if the outward appearance does not change. Sometimes however, the outer appearance HAS changed! In a recent homily, Father John made reference to Blessed Carlo Acutis and miracles of the Holy Eucharist.
