Confirmation

Confirmation is a sacrament that completes Baptismal grace through the power of the Holy Spirit.

“By the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” (CCC 1285). The ordinary minister of Confirmation is the Bishop, who is a successor of the apostles.

At Saint Mary’s, our youth typically receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the 8th grade after years of instruction in our Parish Religious Ed Program.   To enroll your child in Religious Ed, please call the parish office!

Adults seeking Confirmation should contact Father John Maria for instruction. Very often, the OCIA program is the means of instruction and preparation to receive this great sacrament.

Scriptural Foundation:

“And when Paul laid [his] hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them ….” – Acts 19:6
